A scenic mountain vista from Southwestern Virginia

Welcome to  JMarshall Handcrafted Knives!

John performing the 2X4 chop as part of his JS Performance test

I grew up on a small farm in the rolling hills of Southwestern Virginia, America's first frontier.  Thousands of settlers came down the Wilderness road through those mountains following the lead of men like Daniel Boone, hoping to carve a new life for themselves out of the frontier.  Then, as now, a good quality knife was an essential piece of equipment.

I live and work in Frederick county, Maryland, just a stone's throw from William 'Bill' Moran's homeplace.  In 2020, I joined the Board of Directors for the William F. Moran, Jr. Museum & Foundation, and you'll often find me taking pictures or video at Museum member's meetings and events.

On October 15, 2022, I passed my ABS Journeyman Performance test at the Wm. F. Moran All Forged Knife Show with Master Bladesmith, Jay Hendrickson.  It was an honor to take my test with Mr. Hendrickson in Bill Moran's forge.

My blades are hand forged to shape from the highest quality steel available, and I select only the best available handle materials.  The sheaths are made from high quality cowhide leather, and tooled by me.
